Jacqueline (Jacki) Millspaugh, LPC-S
Hi, my name is Jacki. I have been working in the behavioral health field for over 34 years and have been licensed as a Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Oklahoma for 25 of those years.
I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), utilizing other approaches/techniques as needed, to address such issues as depression, anxiety, anger management, addiction & substance use, stress, trauma, self-doubt, grief, relationship repair & development, and self-discovery & growth in general. I have been fortunate to receive extensive training and supervision from the Beck Intitute of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. And in my almost 20-year timespan of working for the Oklahoma State Department of Mental Health and Substances Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) in treatment & recovery and clinical support, I worked to facilitate training on evidence-based treatment models (such as CBT & Person-Centered Planning) and authored clinical guidance documents and training modules for clinicians in the public behavioral health system. I am a State Approved Supervisor for Oklahoma Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Candidates. I served as the LPC Supervisor for employees while at the ODMHSAS and have continued to provide licensure supervision since retiring from the State in early 2022 and moving to full-time private practice. Even after more than 34 years I love this work and feel extremely honored that people allow me to accompany them on their personal and professional growth journeys.

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?
Basically, CBT works by identifying, tackling, and changing unhelpful thinking so that your mindset, behaviors, and overall well-being improve with practice.
When you change the way you feel about specific situations, for example, it will likely be easier to adapt your behaviors in the future.
In mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, substance use, phobias, and many others, negative thinking takes many forms, like: thinking in black and white; overgeneralizing; ignoring the positive and focusing on the negative; and catastrophizing. In CBT, you’ll work with your therapist to identify the thinking patterns that cause your distress. This is an important step in managing overwhelming emotions and unhelpful behaviors.
Though many people think therapy is just chatting with a therapist, CBT is actually very structured and tailored to each person.
Over time, you’ll learn CBT techniques to acknowledge and challenge thoughts that get in your way.
CBT strategies might include: keeping track of your thoughts and reviewing them later; confronting situations that create anxiety to learn coping mechanisms; practicing problem-solving with your therapist; and role-playing interactions with others. By practicing CBT strategies like these with your therapist — and at home by yourself — you’ll develop useful skills like: gaining awareness of unhelpful thoughts and how they impact your emotional state; getting a more logical understanding of other people’s actions challenging automatic assumptions; accurately assessing reality; coping with triggering or upsetting situations; learning positive self-talk and how to boost confidence; and relaxation techniques. The idea is to apply the skills you learn in therapy to your daily life. It’s like exercising any muscle to make it stronger, except this time that muscle is your brain.
It requires both you and your therapist to be collaborative, committed, and communicative. https://psychcentral.com/lib/in-depth-cognitive-behavioral-therapy

MY VIEW OF SUPERVISION
Supervision is a process that occurs through a collaborative relationship between a more experienced Counselor and a less experienced Licensure Candidate. In my view, supervision should create an environment where growth and development can occur in a way that moves the Candidate closer toward their professional goals, while helping to ensure ethical practice and quality of care.
During the supervisory process the Candidate can expect to have access to assistance with development in the following areas: Person-Centered Planning- including clinical assessment, service plan development and evaluation; framework for recovery-oriented mental health services; client conceptualization; clinical intervention- including theoretical orientation; interpersonal assessment; skills development; rules for service provision and reimbursement; self-care; and professional ethics. As your supervisor, I will assist you with identifying your individual strengths, areas of interest, and areas of needed growth.
The supervisory process extends over time, and during this time it is anticipated that Supervisor/ Candidate relationship will go through various phases of development. In the beginning phase, the Candidate is likely to experience some degree of uncertainty, insecurity, and anxiety. During this phase, as your Supervisor I will expect honesty, receptiveness, care, and a commitment to the process of Supervision. Gradually, as confidence and competence is developed, the relationship will evolve into a more collegial one.
Candidates meet a minimum of one time per week in either group or individual supervision. This is a face to face meeting to discuss cases and other professional development.
Candidates are required to attend 45 minutes of supervision for every 20 hours worked.
Fee is $50.00 per hour. _____________
If you are ready to start your professional growth and development journey, please contact me to schedule a meeting to determine if we are a good match.
